Common Measurements to have: Living Room, Dining Room & Bedroom

LIVING ROOM

1”-2” - Back of Sofa to the wall (if against the wall). It just looks nicer way than being smooshed against the wall If a sofa is being packed in front of a window and there are curtain panels you need to account for depth of the panel from the wall, which is approv 8” the front of the curtain panel is stacked (pushed open) to the wall.

12”- 14” - Coffee table to the edge of the sofa

4” - 8” - Space between 2 club chairs

8’- Distance between 2 seating areas facing each other. This is so that the people sitting across from each other can hear.

2” - 3” - between a table and sofa or chair

6” - space between a wall and a area rug

2/3 - The proportion of furniture that should sit on a rug. For example, if you have a chair that back legs are not on the rug and the front are, we recommend that at least 2/3 of the depth of the chair in on the rug.

26”-48” - pathway between a piece of furniture and the wall for clear pathways

Common Furniture sizes:

Sofa : Width: 60”, 72,” 84” & 96” | Depth: 36”, 38” & 42” | Height: 30” - 38” | Seat Height 15” - 19”

Club Chairs: Width: 30”- 38” | Depth: 34”- 40” | Height: 30” - 38” | Seat Height 16” - 19”

Coffee Tables: Width: 36”- 60” | Depth: 18”- 60” | Height: 15” - 18”

Side Table: Width: 14”- 30” | Depth: 18” - 24” | Height 20” - 24”

Quick Tips: You do not want you sofa seat height to be too much lower than your coffee table. We looks to keep them with in 2” from each other. We also like to keep the side table height around 2” higher on lower than the arm height. When placing a console behind a sofa try and have the console height ever be taller than the back of the sofa.

Artwork

A mirror or piece of art needs between 5” - 9” from the top of the dresser or table to the bottom of the frame.

Art on a wall over a sofa should be hung a bit higher so your head does not hit it while you are sitting back. We like that closer to 8” from the top of the sofa to the bottom of the frame.
