Before you Buy

RUG

  • It should have a low pile (it should be flat) so that you chair can glide with ease over it.

  • You need to have at a minimum 36” from the face of the desks to the back of the rug, so that the chair does not get caught on the edge of the rug

  • The rug width needs to be wider than the desk by a minimum of 4” on each side

DESK

  • Before you purchase your desk, think about your storage needs.

  • Do you need to store files? If so how many file drawers do you need? Does it need to be part of a desk or can it be a separate unit?

  • How much surface area will you need at your desk?

  • Will you have a desktop computer or a laptop?

  • Think about cord management and a nice way to hide all of the cords.

  • If the desk is going in front of the window, look at the window height and the desk height relationship .

  • Give yourself a minimum of 36” from the desk and any wall or piece of furniture

DESH CHAIR

  • Make sure you have enough space from the underside of the desk and the seat so you have a comfortable amount of room for your legs. We like a minimum of 12”

  • If your desk chair has arms and if they cannot go under the desk when the chair is tucked, make sure that you have enough space to move around the room.

  • Comfort of the chair. You will most likely be sitting at the desk for a long time.

BOOKCASES & CABINETS

  • What are the items that you will need to store in the space: Printer, Files, Trays, Books, Binders, Lamps.

  • Confirm that you have enough depth for your piece of furniture to accommodate the items that will be placed on or inside the cabinet.

  • Think about how wires/electricity can reach the items that will be stored on or in the furniture: lamps, printer, router. Also make sure there is an outlet near by.

  • You will want 36” from the front of the piece to any other pieces of furniture and door opening for a clear walkway.

  • Look at the height of the window and the height of the cabinet if anything is going in front of the window. Take what it will look like from outside under consideration.
