Bamboo: renewable, naturally occurring material
Pros/cons:
Eco-friendly
Adds warmth to your space
Has antibacterial properties
It is easily stained, scratched and nicked
Stains cannot be removed from washing, need to sand and reseal
Not heat resistant
Ability to refinish by sanding and resealing
Requires sealant, like mineral oil, beeswax or tung oil
Not water resistant and moisture can warp it, so be careful near the sink especially (consider multiple applications of sealant to avoid water damage)
Limited color options
How to care and maintain bamboo:
Wipe with a damp cloth and sponge
Use an all-purpose, non-abrasive cleaner
Do not use harsh chemicals or ammonia
Wipe spills up quickly to avoid staining
Mineral oil and beeswax are best sealants for bamboo
Tung oil is another sealant, but derived from nuts so could cause an allergic reaction
Apply sealant once/month
When applying sealant, follow the grains of the bamboo
